PP (Production Planning) plans what to make, when and how much, drives the execution of that plan, and records what actually happened. It sits at the centre of any manufacturing implementation, between procurement in MM and costing in CO.
The key to PP is master data. Without an accurate bill of material and routing, neither requirements planning nor costing produces anything trustworthy. Most PP problems turn out to be master data problems rather than functional ones.
