What is SAP Basis?
SAP Basis is the technical foundation of SAP systems, covering system administration and operations. Basis administrators handle all technical tasks required for stable system operation, including installation, configuration, monitoring, performance tuning, transport management, and user management.
SAP systems use a three-tier architecture: Presentation layer (SAP GUI or browser), Application layer (SAP Application Server), and Database layer (HANA, Oracle, etc.). Basis manages this entire architecture and ensures coordination between layers. In S/4HANA, the database is standardized to SAP HANA.
